New CML YouTube Channel!

The Classical Marimba League now has a YouTube channel where you can see video performances from past Marimba Artist Competition Winner's Concerts. We have 12 videos up and running so far, so please stop by and check them out!

It's not too late to enter!

The deadline for the 2009 CML Composition Competition is fast approaching, but you still have time to get your piece entered. Here are all of the details:

Submission deadline: September 4, 2009
Awards include: Sheet Music Publication with C. Alan Publications,
World Premiere Performances & Live Recordings

The 2009 competition is open to five (5) Style categories & five (5) Instrumentation categories.

Participants may choose from any of the five (5) Instrumentations to couple with their chosen Style.

Classical
Romantic
Impressionism
Tonal 21st Century

Instrumentation
Marimba Solo
Marimba & Piano
Marimba & Cello
Marimba Duet [1 Marimba, 4 Hands]
Marimba & Percussion Ensemble

Deadline
Scores and all application materials must be received by September 4, 2009.
Results will be announced in September - October, 2009.

Prizes
Each year, up to 5 winners will have their work performed and recorded live, the following season, by one of the participating music conservatories. These winners will also have their work published by C. Alan Publications.

Restrictions
The work must be an original, unpublished composition. Duration, difficulty, instrument range and other boundaries within the style selection are up to the composer's discretion. There is no age restriction to the participants.

Submit
1) Two hard copies of the full score & completed application form
2) E-mail of Sibelius or Finale sheet music file for publication review
3) Application fee of $35 U.S. per piece made payable to the Classical Marimba League
Candidate may submit up to one work per category (no more than 5 works)

2010 Int'l Marimba Artist Competition Details

We have just posted details and the application for the 2010 CML International Marimba Artist Competition. We are extremely excited to be offering cash prizes to the top three soloists this year!

$40.00 Application Fee (Personal Check must be drawn from a U.S. bank. Applicants from outside the U.S. should send an international postal money order.)
*All of these items must be received by February 1, 2010 to be eligible.

Audition Repertoire:
Required Set-Piece – "Short Stories, Mvt. II" by Bruce Broughton with piano accomp. (available from Steve Weiss Music)
2-3 Other Solo Marimba Works (without accompaniment)
*Total duration of music on DVD should not exceed 30 minutes (including set-piece)

Winner's Concert:
Each performer may play up to 30 minutes of music (no more)
By entering ths competition, you have committed to performing in concert at the University of Minnestoa (April 28-May 1, 2010)
You are responsible for all travel, lodging and food expenses.
